Whether they leave their role, or their mandate comes to an end, all public office holders are required to comply with the post-mandate rules set out in the Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Act. These post-mandate rules include:
- obligation of confidentiality;
- obligation not to unduly take advantage of their past function;
- prohibition from acting with respect to a procedure, negotiation or special operation in which they were previously involved;
- for certain former public office holders, prohibition from lobbying for a certain period of time.
